the bike ride - nelson's first PUBLISHED book

5.0 out of 5 stars *****Heartwarming story with a nice message of giving back, November 22, 2010 By Ellyn M Ito
The Bike Ride is a wonderful combination of a warm children's story delivered with a quiet lesson about giving back. I appreciate the practical message that this book delivers -- that while it is not always realistic to stop development in nature-rich areas, it is possible to give back, regenerate, and live in harmony with the natural world around you. The illustrations are lovely, and the tone of the book is heartwarming -- every father (or mother) can remember the special moments shared with their child meandering down a wooded path, and every child can remember the squirrels, frogs, ducks and other little critters they have talked to and forged friendships with.....this book will be enjoyed by parents and children alike. And, as an additional bonus, the book comes with a send-away for a free tree sapling -- which is perfect for school-aged kids to plant their own tree and watch it grow (or its perfect for parents who have a bare spot in their yard and need to get out planting!) Both my kids (ages 9 and 5) enjoyed the story and are anxiously awaiting their tree from Nelson Goose, though my 5-year old son is a little puzzled over how a goose can write or type with webbed feet. My son thinks "Mr. Goose probably said the book-words to a person and they probably typed it it for him".

As a father of 3 living in the country, I was really taken by the messages in this very genuine book. The Bike Ride is not only enjoyable with a thoughtful message for children, it is a pure-hearted creative fatherly achievement by author Nelson Goose. The illustrator and the author are on the same page in this collaboration of rare and timeless character. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars*****WOW, October 28, 2010 By Zans This book did a wonderful job combining nature and a children's story. Every little kid names the animals they see and feel a connection with them. This story is from the fathers point of view but has a kids mind telling the story. Every kid will be able to understand this story and feel like it is about them. Nelson goose, is he related to mother goose?, is a great author and I really hope he brings more stories like this in the near future. I loved this book!
